Empowering educators with culturally responsive, research-driven phonics instruction tools.

[EAGAN, Minn.] – Lavinia Group announces the launch of RedThread Readers, a series of decodable texts for kindergarten through second grade students. Aligned with a research-based, systematic phonics scope and sequence, the books are engineered to bolster early reading skills.

Addressing the urgent crisis in early literacy across the United States, RedThread Readers are poised to become a vital tool for educators. They enhance phonics instruction with engaging, culturally diverse narratives designed to help students who have fallen behind quickly catch up and excel.

Unlike traditional decodable books, which often feature nonsensical plotlines and lack engaging content, RedThread Readers offer vibrant illustrations and meaningful stories while building background knowledge. The collection of 170 unique titles is designed to inspire a love for reading and deepen readers’ understanding of the world around them.

Robin Rubenstein, Director of Curriculum & Implementation at Lavinia Group, explains, “Unlike other educational products where stories are crafted around phonics needs, our books integrate phonics seamlessly into rich, captivating stories. Each set of RedThread Readers includes 25 copies of each decodable book title, allowing for shared use across multiple classrooms within the same grade 

• Kindergarten: 52 titles, totaling 1,300 books
• First grade: 58 titles, totaling 1,450 books
• Second grade: 60 titles, totaling 1,500 books

Each kit equips educators with the resources they need to elevate phonics instruction including a digital guide with resources such as lesson planning assistance, book selection guides, and ready-to-use lesson plans to help teachers integrate these books into their curriculum effectively.

Aligned with ESSER funding requirements, RedThread Readers is an effective, evidence-based solution to mitigate learning loss.
